 MISSOURI TEACHERS ARE STATE SEMIFINALISTS
IN TEACHER OF THE YEAR PROGRAM
ATLANTA, June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Five Missouri teachers are state semifinalists and will compete in the nationwide "Teacher of the Year" competition sponsored by IBM and Technology & Learning Magazine.
The five semifinalists are Paula Baker, Wentzville R-IV School District in Wentzville; Ann M. Brickey, Thomas B. Chinn Elementary School in Kansas City; Dale W. Ebert, Pipkin Junior High School in Springfield; Sheila R. Hacker, Fair Play R-11 School in Fair Play; and Bev Sanderson, Louisiana Middle School in Louisiana.
Now in its fifth year, the IBM/Technology & Learning Magazine competition recognizes kindergarten through 12th grade teachers who use classroom technology to motivate children and revitalize the learning process.
The five Missouri semifinalists were chosen from entrants from school systems across the state. They will compete against semifinalists from other states for 16 regional awards.
The national Teacher of the Year winner will be chosen from the regional winners and announced in the fall of 1992.
A panel made up of educators selected by Technology & Learning Magazine chose the winners from nominations received from school systems nationwide.
Since the program was initiated in 1988, more than 200 teachers from across the country have been honored for their innovative teaching methods and for programs of curriculum enrichment.
All state winners in the competition will receive a selection of IBM courseware -- educational software -- and appropriate personal recognition. Regional winners will receive an IBM Personal System/2 Model 25 computer, an IBM Proprinter, an assortment of IBM courseware and will be profiled in Technology & Learning Magazine.
The national winner will receive for his or her school a network of computers, consisting of 20 IBM Personal System/2 Model 25 computers, an IBM PS/2 Model 80 file server, four IBM Proprinters and a library of IBM courseware.
The competition is open to all teachers utilizing classroom technology, regardless of the type of systems or courseware used.
