MISSION TO MARS 2022; Tech billionaire wants to colonise the Red Planet.

Byline: KAMERON VIRK

ELON Musk has said he plans to land at least two cargo ships on Mars by 2022.

The billionaire behind the Tesla electric cars has said he will use his Space X rockets to make the trip.

Musk unveiled his plans for colonising the planet at the International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide, Australia.

He said: "I feel fairly confident we can build the ship and be ready for the launch in five years. Five years seems like a long time for me."

Musk wants craft carrying crews to Mars to arrive in 2024, with the cargo ships having placed power, mining and life-support infrastructure on the planet two years earlier.

He said his firm will put all their resources into building the Interplanetary Transport System, known as BFR or Big F*****g Rocket.
