MISSION'S OVER FOR BOSS BOND.

Byline: WALLY MEETS

KEVIN BOND has resigned as manager of League One strugglers Southend.

The 62-year-old (below) took charge in April and saved the Shrimpers from relegation, but he has lost all six league matches this season.

Roots Hall chairman Ron Martin said: "Kevin's success in keeping the club in League One last season must be acknowledged and will long be remembered by the club's fans. Unfortunately the euphoria at the end of last season has not translated to the pitch so far this season. The search for a new manager commences today."

Former Bolton boss Phil Parkinson and ex-Southend defender, Millwall coach Adam Barrett, are favourites for the job.
