MINNTECH ISSUES ADVISORY ON RENALIN COLD STERILANT
 MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Minntech Corporation

(NASDAQ: MNTX) reported today that it is issuing a safety advisory to its dialysis center customers who use Renalin(R) cold sterilant to reprocess dialyzers (artificial kidneys). The company's action follows meetings with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration about the preliminary results of two studies which examined the effects of dialyzer reprocessing.
The studies analyzed data from the period 1986 to 1990 and indicated a statistical association (but not a cause and effect) between low flux dialyzers reprocessed with Renalin and increased patient mortality in free standing dialysis centers.
The company's advisory letter alerts its customers to the preliminary findings of will studies and will be followed by appropriate educational materials. The letter also emphasizes that Minntech will expand its technical assistance and training to its reprocessing customers. The company will also require written agreements from its Renalin customers that the customers' reprocessing procedures comply with guidelines issued by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).
Dr. Louis C. Cosentino, chief executive officer and president, commented, "We are confident that Renalin is safe and effective when used properly. We are cooperating with the FDA and are working with our customers to assure proper use of our dialyzer reprocessing products."
