MINNTECH CORPORATION WINS ACCESS TO DATA UNDER FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Minntech Corporation (NASDAQ: MNTX) announced today that its lawsuit against the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has been decided by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Minntech initiated this action under the Freedom of Information Act on Dec. 4, 1992, to obtain release of scientific data used for studies concerning kidney dialysis and Minntech's Renalin(R) Cold Sterilant product.
The court stated "that disclosure of the data underlying the studies in question would serve the public interest. The public does have an interest in the validity of the studies and the propriety of their early dissemination." Consequently, the court has ordered HHS to produce the Health Care Financing Agency data by Dec. 30, 1993.
Dr. Louis C. Consentino, president and chief executive officer reported, "Minntech is pleased with the court's decision and will continue to pursue release of additional data to complete its statistical analysis."
