MINNESOTA VEHICLE INSPECTION PROGRAM TO TEST MILLIONTH CAR

MINNESOTA VEHICLE INSPECTION PROGRAM TO TEST MILLIONTH CAR
The Minnesota Vehicle Inspection Program is expecting to test its one millionth car on Earth Day, 1992! The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) and Systems Control would like to invite members of the Twin Cities media to join them for this milestone event on Wednesday, April 22.
Authorized by a 1988 state law, the program began July 1, 1991 in an effort to reduce harmful levels of carbon monoxide pollution. Under the program, gas-powered vehicles registered in the seven-county metropolitan area must have pollution control equipment inspected and exhaust emissions measured each year before license tabs can be renewed.
A celebration of the one-millionth vehicle tested will be held at the Oakdale inspection station, 1040 Gershwin Avenue North, Oakdale, Minn. at 10 a.m. MPCA Commissioner Charles Williams and Sen. Ember Reichgott, the chief sponsor of the 1988 law, will be on hand to congratulate the vehicle's driver and dedicate a newly planted tree in the customer's name. Visitors can observe and photograph the testing of the one millionth car and the award ceremony that will follow. Key participants in the development and implementation of the program will also be on hand to answer any questions.
For more information about this event, please call Michelle Koenig at the MPCA, 612-296-7766, or Martha Nevanen of Systems Control at 612-885-0955. We hope to see your there! The directions to the Oakdale inspection station are as follows: From interstate 94 take the Century Avenue exit and go north for 1-1/2 miles to 10th Street North. Go east on 10th Street one block to Gershwin Avenue and go north one block.
