MINNEAPOLIS GRAIN EXCHANGE ANNOUNCES NEW CONTRACT

MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Minneapolis Grain Exchange announced today its proposal for a new futures and options contract not offered by any other world exchange -- shrimp.
The exchange is diversifying from a long-standing grain exchange to one that includes global commodity markets such as shrimp.
The livestock and grain industries have long enjoyed the risk- controlling benefits of futures and options. Now, the rapid changes of the shrimp industry make it right for futures.
Research indicates that the timing is right for a shrimp futures market. Extremely volatile prices, which used to be much more predictable, dramatic increases in U.S. shrimp consumption and momentous changes in production have meant high risk for importers, end users and producers.
The exchange has distributed its contract proposal to exchange membership for approval, then will submit it to the Commodities Futures Trading Commission for final approval. Trading could begin this summer.
The Minneapolis Grain Exchange is the only authorized U.S. Exchange for Hard Red Spring Wheat and White Wheat futures and options. It is also the world's largest cash marketplace.
