MINEXPO INTERNATIONAL '92: A CELEBRATION OF MINING
LAS VEGAS, Nev., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- MINExpo International '92,

one of the largest mining equipment expositions in the world this year, opened today with a record number of exhibitors at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
"MINExpo is more than an equipment show. It is a celebration. A celebration of the technology, machinery, people and ideas that have helped our industry meet the demanding challenges of competing successfully in the global marketplace," William G. Mulligan, executive vice president of Ingersoll-Rand Company and chairman of MINExpo International '92, said during the opening ceremonies.
Moments after the opening ceremonies, thousands of mining professionals from around the globe streamed into the enormous exhibit hall filled with more than 825 exhibitors showing the latest in state-of-the-art machinery, equipment and services for the coal, metal and minerals mining and processing industries. The exposition covers nearly 400,000 square feet of space.
Mulligan said MINExpo offers "the largest shopping center in the world for the mining industry."
In addition to the exposition, MINExpo features three informative conferences, the International Minerals and Metals Conference, the International Coal Conference and the U.S. Issues Conference where issues of interest to the domestic and international mining communities will be examined.
Other MINExpo special events include a welcoming luncheon Monday, where the winners of the prestigious Sentinels of Safety awards will be honored for their efforts to make America's mines safer and healthier places to work. The luncheon will feature remarks by Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and a presentation by Justin Wilson, television's famed Cajun chef and a noted safety expert. Tuesday's keynote breakfast offers a discussion with Kenneth Gooding, the mining and metals correspondent for the Financial Times of London.
MINExpo, sponsored by the American Mining Congress, combines the mining industry's two leading U.S. expositions into one major worldwide event that occurs once every four years. The five-day exposition is expected to attract 30,000 mining professionals.
