MILLIONS ENJOY OLYMPIC GAMES THANKS TO TEKTRONIX
 WILSONVILLE, Ore., July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- High-tech television

broadcast equipment, manufactured by Tektronix Inc. (NYSE: TEK), will enable viewers worldwide to enjoy the Olympic Games in the comfort of their own homes, Tektronix said today. All this is made possible by electronic test, measurement and processing equipment such as switchers, synchronizers, edit controllers and digital routers, which are made by Tektronix and the company's subsidiary, the Grass Valley Group (GVG), located in Grass Valley, Calif.
"Ever since TV has covered the Olympics, broadcasters have selected Tektronix equipment because of its capability and reliability," said Steve Kerman, vice president, Tektronix Television Systems International. "The purpose of these test and measurement devices is to ensure the television pictures we see at home are clear, sharp and free of distortions or interruptions."
It's not important to the home viewers how the signal reaches them but rather how clear the picture is once it arrives. What happens behind the scenes is "invisible" to the folks at home, but nearly every signal received on a home television set has passed through at least one Tektronix device.
The result -- the picture the viewer sees is precise and accurate. So clear in fact, not only can you see the athletes, but also the look of determination on their faces, the sweat on their brow and see the look of satisfaction when they score that perfect "10."
Tektronix is planning to deliver yet another gold-medal performance in Barcelona. More than 1,100 pieces of equipment are already in place in Spain along with a staff of engineers and field support personnel who will offer 24-hour engineering and service support throughout the games.
Tektronix has supplied specialized equipment to the television industry since the dawn of commercial television. Today, nearly every broadcast facility in the world uses Tektronix equipment. Last year Tektronix received its third Emmy from the Nation Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for technical excellence and leadership. The Grass Valley Group also received its fourth Emmy last year.
Tektronix Inc. is a leading manufacturer of electronic products and systems in the areas of test and measurement, computer graphics and television systems. Revenues in fiscal 1992 totaled $1.3 billion from worldwide sales.
