MILES TO SELL CONSUMER HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS BUSINESS

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Miles Inc., Pittsburgh, confirmed today that it planned to sell its North American Consumer Household Products business, which makes S.O.S home cleaning products, Tuffy plastic mesh pads and Cutter insect repellents.
Miles said that the business no longer fits into its strategic plans, and it wants to focus only on those businesses that fit well into its core business segments -- chemicals, health care and imaging technologies.
The Consumer Household Products business had sales in 1992 of approximately $120 million and employs about 340 people at plants in Chicago and Toronto. Miles had total sales in 1992 of $6.5 billion and employs some 26,000 people.
Employees of the Consumer Household Products unit were informed yesterday of the decision to sell the business.
Miles has retained CS First Boston as its financial adviser in this matter.
