MILACRON TO MOVE PRODUCTION OF BLOWN AND CAST PLASTIC FILM SYSTEMS TO CINCINNATI

CINCINNATI, March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Cincinnati Milacron Inc. (NYSE: CMZ) today announced plans to merge its Sano unit, a producer of equipment to make thin plastic film and sheet, with its plastics extrusion systems business and transfer Sano's manufacturing operations from Passaic, N.J., to more modern facilities in Cincinnati, Ohio. The purpose of the move is to improve manufacturing efficiency and increase capacity to meet current and projected worldwide demand for Sano's products.
"We're moving Sano to the same facility that produces Milacron's Wolfpack-developed Apex extruders, which form an integral part of our blown film and cast film systems," said David E. Noffsinger, senior vice president of plastics machinery.
"Now all our U.S.-based extrusion systems businesses will be located under one roof for maximum efficiency in manufacturing, marketing, service and technical support," he said. "In addition, this very modern plant, which includes a development lab, has the high bays, heavy crane capacity and floor space needed to build the large tower structures which are a key feature of Sano systems," he added.
Of Sano's 150 current employees, approximately 50 will be retained or offered transfers. The others will receive severance benefits and outplacement assistance. The company expects to complete the move by the end of the second quarter.
Cincinnati Milacron, with plastics machinery sales of $300 million in 1992, is the number one U.S. producer of plastics processing equipment. The company, whose consolidated sales are expected to reach $1 billion in 1993, is also a leading producer of machine tools, computer controls and software, grinding wheels, metalworking fluids and metalcutting tools.
