MIKEY'S SECRET HEART BREAK; EXCLUSIVE: PAIN BEHIND LAUGHS OF BLIND SCOTS HOUSEMATE BB9 favourite was given up by parents he has never met.

SCOTS Big Brother star Mikey Hughes is hiding a secret heartache - he has never met his real parents.

The blind 33-year-old was adopted when he was just four months old.

The tot went to live with Grant and Mary Hughes on Valentine's Day and had a happy childhood growing up in Kilwinning, Ayrshire.

A source said last night: "Mikey was adopted when he was just a baby and has never known life any other way.

"He has a great relationship with his parents and has always known he was adopted.

"His sister Jennifer was adopted as well, and the family are very close.

"But it's always been at the back of Mikey's mind, he's always wondered who his real parents are."

Mikey has already been tipped as a favourite to win Big Brother 9 - and has amused viewers by admitting he has a fetish for fishnet stockings.

But his mum Mary, 59, was horrified when he talked about his kink live on national TV last night.

Mikey's aunt Janet Robertson, of Kilwinning, said last night: "Mary is traumatised after what he said about fishnets.

"My brother, Michael's dad, says it's a load of nonsense.

"Mind you, he's always been a bit eccentric and will be very entertaining. Michael is such a character.

"We were shocked when we saw him on the telly - Grant sat in my house till 9pm last night and never told us a thing.

"It wasn't till I got a phone call later on to tell me Michael was on that I realised what was happening. Now we're telling everyone to vote for him."

Radio producer Mikey, who works for Glasgow's Insight Radio, lost his sight at 23 after surgery to reattach the retina in his right eye.

He went blind in his left eye when he was seven, before doctors found he was suffering from a rare genetic condition known as Stickler's syndrome.

But Mikey, who lives in Clydebank, near Glasgow, with girlfriend Angela Anderson, has never let blindness hold him back.

He graduated from university with a master's in literature and worked as a researcher for BBC's Good Morning Scotland before joining Insight.

Last night, a former colleague at the radio station told how Mikey constantly entertained staff.

She revealed he rarely wears underwear and has been known to flash at colleagues. She said: "Mikey was off the wall. He's mad as a fish, creative, smart and eccentric.

"His personal hygiene is awful, he has terrible eating habits and doesn't listen to anyone but he's hilarious.

"He has a long fuse and is very thick skinned so will be perfect for Big Brother.

"He has no shame. One day he was chatting away to staff from Glasgow City Council and didn't realise he had his fly undone and all his bits were hanging out.

"Everyone else was mortified but Mikey thought it was hilarious."

Mikey, who once starred on TV show The Weakest Link, had been rejected for Big Brother before.

The pal added: "He was determined to make it on this time.

"He will add a colour to the show. He has a fetish for women's clothes and tends not to wear underwear."
