MIFP DEVELOPMENT SHIPS SCREENSAVOR 2.0.1; NEW RELEASE SUPPORTS USE OF PICTs, CD-ROM AND NETWORK SERVERS

PORTLAND, Ore., March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- MIFP Development -- "More Ideas For People" -- has some new ideas for preventing Macintosh screen "burn in." The company said today it has released ScreenSavor(TM) 2.0.1, a major upgrade to its photograph-based screen saver program.
"ScreenSavor 2.0 gives Macintosh users the best of everything in the screen saver universe," said David Perednia, vice president for customer relations. "Fans of After Dark(TM), Intermission(TM) and Star Trek(R): The Screen Saver can take advantage of ScreenSavor's new features, including the ability to show their own images, more control over image sizes and placement and a combination of remarkable new display effects -- all without giving up their current investment in screen saver software. For corporate users, ScreenSavor provides a professional alternative to animation-type displays while minimizing use of hard-disk space. ScreenSavor is now the most beautiful, versatile and customizable photographic screen saver program on the market."
 PICT and Multi-Disk Support
In response to user requests, MIFP has incorporated modifications which allow version 2.0.1 to display users' PICT images as well as the company's own collection of add-on image sets. The program is also designed to support the use of image aliases under System 7. Users can now use images located on CD-ROMs, remote hard drives and even network server machines by simply dragging an image alias into the ScreenSavor display folder on their startup disk. Combined with compression of MIFP's proprietary images, this innovation drastically reduces the amount of disk space needed to store ScreenSavor image files. Licensed network users are now able to install image sets on a single server, with client machines downloading selected photos only when needed to save the screen.
 Innovative Display Formats
ScreenSavor 2.0.1 enhances the product's image display capabilities considerably. In addition to the standard full screen and quartile displays, the program sports an optional "Collage" mode which displays multiple images of different sizes simultaneously. MIFP's list of custom "display effects" which place the images on screen has also been expanded. The collection now includes new jigsaw, venetian blind, and wallpaper styles in addition to more than a half dozen released with the original program. Combining the wide array of display effects and options with multiple image sets produces an infinite number of different image presentations and provides unmatched screen saver variety. The user interface, periodic screen blanking functions, and file handling have all be upgraded as well.
 Add-on Image Sets Expanded
In concert with the 2.0.1 release, MIFP announced two new entries in its lineup of add-on image sets. The "Fairways to Savor" golfing image set features aerial photos of some of the most beautiful courses in the country -- most of which are open to the general public. A new "Kittens on Vacation" image set is based upon the widely acclaimed book by Shinjiro Sagara, and contains photos of kittens in exotic locations around the world. The company adds two to three new image sets to its collection each month, based upon user-requested themes. Over 20 different image sets are currently available.
 Pricing and Availability
MIFP has kept the suggested retail price of $49.95 for the ScreenSavor Starter Kit. The Starter Kit includes the ScreenSavor 2.0.1 program, Apple's QuickTime and a free sample set of 12 images. ScreenSavor add-on image sets, each containing 12 images, have a suggested retail price of $39.95. Registered users who purchased ScreenSavor after Jan. 1, 1993, will receive v.2.0.1 at no extra charge. Other registered owners may upgrade to the latest release for a $15 fee.
