 MIDWEST POWER SYSTEMS ELECTS OFFICERS
 DES MOINES, Iowa, July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Russell Christiansen,


chairman and chief executive officer of Midwest Power Systems Inc. today announced the election of officers for the new utility company, effective Aug. 1.
 The officers are: Richard C. Engle, executive vice president, generation and transmission, Midwest Power. Lynn K. Vorbrich, executive vice president, distribution, Midwest Power. Beverly A. Wharton, group vice president, Midwest Gas. Philip G. Lindner, group vice president, administrative services. John A. Rasmussen, vice president and general counsel. James R. Bull, vice president, generation and transmission, nuclear and system planning, Midwest Power. Lester A. Juon, vice president, Midwest Power, public affairs. Larry M. Smith, corporate controller. Paul J. Leighton, corporate secretary, Midwest Power Systems and Midwest Resources. J. Sue Rozema, treasurer, Midwest Power Systems and Midwest Resources.
 Engle and Vorbrich are former presidents of Iowa Pubic Service Co. and Iowa Power, respectively, the utilities that were merged July 22 to form Midwest Power Systems.
 "The formation of Midwest Power Systems provides us with a unique opportunity to restructure our staff," said Christiansen. "Our new organization will have 12 officer positions instead of the existing 25."
 The utility operating managers will continue to provide our corporate presence in the metropolitan areas served by Midwest Power and Midwest Gas.
 Division managers named for the operating utilities are:
 Midwest Power:
 Robert L. Lester, Des Moines
 James A. Coyle, Sioux City, Iowa
 Keith D. Hartje, Council Bluffs, Iowa
 Thomas C. Watt, Waterloo, Iowa.
 Midwest Gas:
 Steve Soelberg, Des Moines
 John F. Shanafelt, Sioux City
 L.T. Smith, Waterloo
 Greg B. Elden, Minnesota
 Mark Putney, chairman and chief executive officer of Midwest Resources Inc. (NYSE: MWR), also announced that effective Aug. 1, Christiansen will replace Putney as chairman and chief executive officer of Midwest Capital Group, the non-utility subsidiary of Midwest Resources.
 Midwest Resources is a utility holding company headquartered in Des Moines. The utility subsidiary, Midwest Power Systems, has two divisions: Midwest Power, serving 412,000 customers in Iowa and South Dakota, and Midwest Gas, serving 363,000 customers in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota.
