MIDWEST GAS AND MINNEGASCO EXCHANGE SERVICE AREAS

 DES MOINES, Iowa, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Midwest Gas, a utility of Midwest Resources Inc. (NYSE: MWR), and Minnegasco, a division of Arkla Inc. (NYSE: ALG) today signed closing documentation finalizing the exchange of portions of their natural gas service territories.
 Midwest Gas receives Minnegasco's South Dakota service area, including Sioux Falls and Vermillion, while Minnegasco acquires the Midwest Gas service area based in Coon Rapids, Minn. Midwest Gas also receives a payment of $38 million.
 According to Beverly Wharton, group vice president and general manager of Midwest Gas, the exchange allows both Midwest Gas and Minnegasco to acquire properties contiguous to their service territories.
 "The exchange will make Midwest Gas a significant natural gas supplier in South Dakota and give us the opportunity to serve the growing community of Sioux Falls," said Wharton.
 Midwest Resources is a utility holding company headquartered in Des Moines. The utility subsidiary, Midwest Power Systems Inc., has two operating divisions: Midwest Power and Midwest Gas. Midwest Power provides electric service to over 412,000 customers in Iowa and South Dakota. Midwest Gas serves over 335,000 natural gas customers in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.
