MIDO DEAL CASH SNAG; Boro valuation delays striker swap hopes In association with: BOSE MSV SONY.

BORO want a cash settlement before allowing Mido to join Wigan Athletic.

It means there is a lot of negotiating to do before the 'swap deal' can be agreed which would bring Wigan striker Marlon King to Teesside.

Boro value Mido at around pounds 6m, which is exactly what they paid to sign him from Tottenham 18 months ago.

But Wigan are believed to have paid no more than pounds 3m to sign King from Watford last January.

So there is a wide difference in the respective valuations of the two players, and Boro are requesting a cash settlement before any swap deal can be struck.

In addition, it's still not clear whether Boro want to take King as a permanent signing.

He has been on loan at Hull City, and so there is the possibility of Boro taking over his loan arrangement until the end of the season.

However the Evening Gazette understands from Lancashire sources that Wigan would only take Mido as a permanent signing, if Boro did likewise with King.

The need for Wigan to sign Mido could intensify if Emile Heskey is sold this month.

Wigan have already signed one potential replacement by snapping up Colombian striker Hugo Rodallega.

However Rodallega will need time to bed in, and Mido would be a more natural replacement for Heskey should he move on before the end of the month.

Mido has shown no reaction to the kick he received at West Brom, and has trained all week, so he could be in the Boro squad at Wolves on Saturday.

Justin Hoyte is also building up in training and could return, while Julio Arca hopes to be fit following a knee injury.

However Boro intend to give the Argentine a thorough fitness test tomorrow.
