MIDDLE EAST DISTRIBUTOR SIGNS EXCLUSIVE AGREEMENT TO MARKET AND SERVICE TECODRIVE NATURAL GAS ENGINES

WALTHAM, Mass., July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Thermo Power Corporation (AMEX: THP) and Carlin Middle East, a major engine distributor based in Cairo, Egypt, have signed an exclusive agreement providing for the distribution of Thermo Power's family of TecoDrive(TM) natural gas engines. The engines will be used in low-emission vehicles as well as for various stationary applications, such as power generation and irrigation pumps.
Under the agreement, Carlin Middle East will support and maintain a TecoDrive product sales and service network comprised of dealers for Detroit Diesel Corporation, the Allison Division of General Motors Corporation, and other U.S. and European engine manufacturers. The dealer network will market and sell the TecoDrive engines in Egypt. The firm's Cairo headquarters and a branch facility in Alexandria also offer complete engine servicing and training.
"This is another endorsement of TecoDrive products by the international community," said Marshall J. Armstrong, chairman and chief executive officer of Thermo Power Corporation. "In addition to ongoing demonstrations of our TecoDrive engines in transit buses in Brazil and Belgium, we will now be a part of Egypt's efforts to harness and use natural gas that is presently being flared. The use of natural gas will not only reduce pollution, but also displace distilled petroleum products."
In January, Thermo Power and United Environmental, Inc., a subsidiary of United Engines, Inc., signed a three-year agreement providing for the distribution of TecoDrive natural gas engines through a similar dealer network in North America.
Thermo Power Corporation manufactures, markets, and services natural gas engines for vehicular and stationary applications, marine engines, industrial refrigeration equipment, and natural gas-fueled commercial cooling and cogeneration systems. The company also conducts research and development on advanced systems for clean-coal combustion and other high-efficiency gas-fueled devices. Thermo Power is a public subsidiary of Thermo Electron Corporation (NYSE: TMO).
