MID AMERICAN NATIONAL BANK BUYS BUILDING

MID AMERICAN NATIONAL BANK BUYS BUILDING
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Mid American National

Bank and Trust Company has agreed to acquire the former United Home Federal Building located at 519 Madison Ave. in downtown Toledo, Ohio. Mid American National Bank expects to move its headquarters and executive offices to Toledo. The bank's international, trust, marketing, commercial lending, credit card, human resources and special accounts departments will also move to the new location. More than 85 employees will be moved downtown, creating new jobs in the City of Toledo. The bank will initially use eight floors of the building but will eventually occupy all 10 floors. The ten-story building currently houses the law firm of Eastman & Smith and Standard Federal Bank.
Mid American National Bank's new headquarters building was originally opened in 1924 by the Home Bank and Trust Company. At the time of its construction, the building was architecturally and technologically preeminent, and has been well maintained. The Italian Renaissance building is faced with Indiana limestone. Its 35-foot vaulted ceiling in the banking lobby is intricately designed and its stencils are maintained by the Toledo Museum of Art. The largest vault door weighs approximately 50 tons, with 24 locking bolts, each weighing approximately 100 pounds. "We certainly appreciate the historical and architectural significance of this building, and intend to preserve and enhance it," stated Edward J. Reiter, chairman of Mid Am National Bank. "We are pleased to make this significant commitment to the City of Toledo and to the historical integrity of one of its finest landmarks."
The bank will apply for regulatory approval to move its headquarters to downtown Toledo and to open a full-service banking center on the main floor. Mid American National Bank intends to maintain its convenient drive-through location at Madison and Michigan Streets. "A significant downtown presence is crucial to our bank," explained David R. Francisco, CEO of Mid American National Bank. "Toledo is our fastest growing market and staff levels have been increased substantially to service this growth. The opportunity to be in Toledo and to centralize many of our departments and employees is exciting and will result in greater efficiencies. We also believe in the long-term prospects of Toledo and hope to be a leader in its revitalization. We think Toledo should be home to a major bank and we are committed to being a vital part of the resurgence of the downtown area."
The bank will maintain its four full-service banking centers in Bowling Green, its current headquarters location. Mid Am, Inc. (NASDAQ: MIAM) and Mid Am Information Services, Inc., a data processing affiliate, will both maintain their Bowling Green headquarters. The need for increased personnel throughout the corporation will ensure no loss of jobs to the Bowling Green area after the bank's relocation.
Mid American National Bank has also acquired property on Monroe at German Park in Toledo for another full-service banking center, pending regulatory approval. After completion of these transactions, Mid Am Bank will have 32 banking centers in six counties. Its parent company, Mid Am, Inc., is a $1.2 billion financial institution holding company with affiliates located throughout Northwest and West Central Ohio. In addition to Mid American National Bank and Trust Company, Mid Am Inc. owns First National Bank Northwest Ohio, Bryan, Ohio, The Citizens Loan & Building Company, Lima, Ohio and The Farmers Banking Company, Bellefontaine, Ohio, and has 52 banking centers in 12 counties. It recently agreed to acquire Ultra Bancorp, headquartered in Xenix, Ohio, with 10 offices in eight southwestern communities.
