MICRORIM INTRODUCES IN THE BLACK ACCOUNTING SOFTWARE FROM SMALL BUSINESS AND HOME USE

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Microrim Inc. today introduces In The Black, the first Windows accounting software for small business and home use. For a suggested retail price of $89.95, In The Black features a complete small business accounting package, a personal financial manager and a powerful contact management system based on Microrim's database technology. In The Black is also the only software that lets users instantly switch between accounting terminology and plain English. The product will be available in retail stores after Nov. 22.
"There are several accounting products for business and many others for personal finance, but no single software adequately addresses both areas," said Art Miller, Microrim president and chief executive officer. "In The Black enables small business people to manage their business accounting and home finances with one inexpensive, easy to learn package."
Powerful Accounting for Small Business and Home Use
In The Black is a complete general ledger accounting system based on the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles used and recommended by accountants. Unlike basic electronic checkbook systems, In The Black employs a double-entry system with an audit trail to maintain proper and accurate accounting records.
Among In The Black's many features are: pre-set charts of accounts, full accounts payable and receivable, invoicing, budgeting, financial analysis with several types of reports, income statements, balance sheets, asset and liability tracking, graphing, and unlimited accounts and sets of books. In addition to the above, special home features include: credit card and bank account management; financial planners for college, loans, savings and retirement; budgets and net worth analysis.
 Contact Management System
Because In The Black is based on the advanced database technology used in Microrim's flagship R:BASE product since 1981, it offers a host of database features in addition to its accounting functionality. The Contact Manager permits users to record an unlimited number of business and personal contacts with address and telephone information, detailed financial histories, and an infinite number of personal notes for each entry. In The Black's Task Minder works in tandem with the Contact Manager to automatically prompt the user to make bill payments, collections, and even return phone calls.
 Ease-of-Use Features
According to Miller, "Any product is easy to use once you've learned it. The challenge is to make a product easy to learn, so that even computer novices can use it right away." To eliminate the learning curves of both software and accounting, In The Black is the only product that lets users switch between accounting terminology and plain English. At the click of a button, terms like "GL Accounts" become "categories" and vice versa.
To foster ease of use, In The Black program icons are clearly labeled. The system also offers users the choice of manual icon arrangement or automatic positioning based on frequency of use. And in addition to context-sensitive help, In The Black includes several pre-set charts of accounts and a detailed on-line tutorial for quick start-up. Microrim also offers free technical support to registered In The Black users.
In The Black will be sold at computer, software and office products retailers. System requirements: In The Black requires a personal computer with a 386+ microprocessor, MS-DOS 3.1 or higher, Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher, VGA monitor or higher, a 5.25-inch high-density or 3.25-inch disk drive, and 4 MB RAM. The program is operational with any Windows-compatible mouse and printer that supports Windows 3.1. Microrim Inc. develops, markets and supports a complete line of database management systems (DBMS) and other software products for personal computers in the business and home environments. Founded by Wayne Erickson in November 1981, the privately held company was among the first to market databases for personal computers. Since its origin, Microrim has maintained a commitment to providing leading-edge software solutions and has pioneered a host of advanced products, including the first PC DBMS based on the relational model.
Headquartered in Bellevue, Wash., Microrim's employees serve a large customer base that spans virtually the entire globe and ranges from the biggest Fortune 100 companies to the smallest enterprises.
