MICROPROSE RELEASES MASTER OF ORION, A GAME OF SPACE EXPLORATION, COMBAT AND STRATEGY

HUNT VALLEY, Md., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- MicroProse Software, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: MPRS), today announced the release of Master of Orion(TM), a challenging, outer-space strategy game in the addictive gaming tradition of such other MicroProse strategy classics as Sid Meier's Civilization(TM), Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon(R), and Command H.Q.(TM).
Available for IBM-PC/compatible personal computers, Master of Orion puts the player in charge of a starfaring race and its quest to dominate the galaxy. The player has complete control over all economic, social, political, technological and military decisions -- and must make critical decisions in order to ensure the survival of his race against other races competing for the same living space.
Each of the other races, according to Product Manager John Dreibelbis, has special skills and capabilities that have to be considered when planning ways to defeat them. "One race might be skilled diplomacy and have a natural edge over you there. Another might have greater technological capabilities, and still another might produce excellent fighters and possess a strong military. Master of Orion forces you to take these factors into account when determining your strategy."
One of the game's most innovative features is its ability to allow players to combine technologies in original, creative ways. Players can use these technologies to create a fleet of starships with the exact performance capabilities the players need: from small shuttles to strike fighters to gargantuan "planet busting" dreadnoughts.
In addition to addictive strategy elements that have become a staple of MicroProse strategy games, Master of Orion also features a strong graphic look that makes the game visually appealing. Graphic menu screens, colorful depictions of aliens, and exciting animations add drama to the player's achievements.
"Master of Orion is an excellent example of MicroProse's dedication to the strategy market," said Vice President Of Marketing Gerry Blair. "Like all of our strategy games, it gives the player a wealth of decisions to make and then shows him the results of those decisions in fascinating ways that leads the player to want to make even more decisions. Master of Orion is as addictive as any game we've ever done."
Master of Orion requires an IBM-PC/compatible (386/16 or better), 2 MB RAM, DOS 3.3 or better, and VGA graphics. It supports Ad Lib, Roland, SoundBlaster and ProAudio Spectrum sound cards. Use of a mouse is recommended, and use of a keyboard is also supported. Master of Orion carries a suggested retail price of $59.95.
MicroProse, Inc., designs and markets a full line of entertainment software for personal computers and video cartridge systems. Its products are available nationally and internationally through major distributes, retailers and mass merchants.
