MICROPROSE RELEASES CIVILIZATION FOR WINDOWS

HUNT VALLEY, Md., Nov. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- MicroProse, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: MPRS) announces the release of its award-winning and internationally acclaimed strategy game, SID MEIER'S CIVILIZATION(R), for the Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) operating system.
CIVILIZATION places players in control of an empire from the founding of its first cities through the space age. The player makes all decisions regarding the location of cities, treaties with other civilizations, economic growth, the advancement of technology, political and social policy, and the use of military force. During the game the player is in constant competition with other civilizations, led by history's greatest strategic minds, such as Napolean, Julius Caesar, and Alexander the Great.
The Windows version of CIVILIZATION draws on the game's outstanding gameplay and adds the features Windows users expect: high-res VGA graphics, crisp sounds, and interface enhancements like movable windows and status screens. Like other Windows Products, CIVILIZATION can be kept in the background while another application is in use.
"The release of this game for the Windows environment spells doom for business productivity as we know it," said MicroProse VP of Marketing Gerry Blair. "Now the most addictive game ever developed is available on the most popular operating system -- and can be kept out of sight during moments when real work should be getting done...and all this in time for Christmas!"
CIVILIZATION has won just about every major award in the computer game industry, including Best Strategy Program, Best Entertainment Program, and Critic's Choice from the Software Publishers Association, and Overall Game of the Year from Computer Gaming World. It was also named to the prestigious Games Magazine 100 List of the world's best games for 1993. The game has also earned wide praise for its educational value and balanced view of history and the forces that shape the evolution of societies.
Sid Meier, the designer of CIVILIZATION, is the author of many of entertainment software's greatest games, including SID MEIER'S RAILROAD TYCOON(R), SID MEIER'S PIRATES(R) I, and RED STORM RISING(TM). His next release will be the revolutionary classical music composition program SID MEIER'S C.P.U. BACH(TM), for the new 3DO Interactive Multiplayer(TM).
CIVILIZATION is now available for DOS, Windows, Macintosh, and Amiga computer platforms. The Windows version of CIVILIZATION requires a 386 or better processor, 4MB RAM, Windows version 3.1 or later, and 6-13MB of hard disk space (depending on graphics system). The game supports 16-color and 256-color displays, as well as MPC(TM) standard sound cards.
MicroProse Software, Inc. designs and markets a full line of entertainment software for personal computers and video cartridge systems. Its products are available nationally and internationally through major distributors, retailers, and mass merchants.
