 MICRONICS COMPUTERS ANTICIPATES FOURTH-QUARTER RESULTS
 TO BE BELOW EXPECTATIONS
FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Micronics Computers Inc. (NASDAQ: MCRN) today reported that it is experiencing a lower-than- anticipated sales rate for the current quarter. The company's net sales for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 1992, are anticipated to be approximately 15 percent below the $41.1 million net sales reported for the quarter ended June 30, 1992. The company expects that its net income for the current quarter will be in the range of 10 to 14 cents per share, slightly below the 15 cents per share reported by the company for the June 1992 quarter, due principally to its lower-than-anticipated revenues.
The company attributes its reduced revenues for the current quarter in part to the sharp decline in net sales to a major OEM account, Wang Laboratories, which filed under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code in August. Through the first three quarters of fiscal 1992, sales to Wang accounted for approximately 10 percent of the company's total net sales. Fourth-quarter shipments to Wang, all prior to the Chapter 11 filing, were only $0.3 million. Additionally, the company experienced greater- than-anticipated seasonality in its international business in the current quarter. Although the company's recently announced VESA Local Bus system boards have been positively received within the PC industry, these new products are just now reaching volume production levels.
Micronics Computers Inc. expects to announce final results for the fourth quarter ended Sept. 30, 1992, in late October.
Micronics Computers is a leading supplier of high-performance system boards incorporated in high-end IBM-compatible personal computers sold by OEMs and VARs. The company sells primarily to direct marketers and other marketing-oriented personal computer vendors.
