MICROLOG RECEIVES PATENT FOR CONFERENCE SOFTWARE SWITCH
GERMANTOWN, Md., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Microlog Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: MLOG) announced today that it has received a U.S. Patent for a Software Switch for Digitized Audio Signals that enables conferencing between its automated telephone information system, the VCS 3500, an operator, and the caller.
Microlog's VCS 3500 voice processing system processes multiple incoming calls simultaneously detecting whether the caller is using a touch-tone or rotary dial telephone. If the caller is using a rotary dial phone, he is conferenced in a half duplex manner with an operator. The operator can hear the request of the caller but the operators presence is transparent to the caller. The operator makes the selection for the caller by entering the touch-tone selection on the operator phone pad. The only action taken by the operator is to answer the phone, listen to the information spoken by the caller and push buttons on the phone pad. The operator never speaks to the caller and in many systems is not provided with a mouthpiece. The VCS 3500 senses the tone input and reacts just as if the tones had come from the caller's phone.
"The conferencing software enables conferencing without the use of any additional hardware, such as a PBX, beyond that included in the VCS 3500 system itself," said Robert D. Drescher, vice president of marketing. The conferencing software was designed for a major federal government customer to provide an information service to all callers.
Microlog Corporation, headquartered in Germantown, designs, manufactures, sells and services voice processing systems. Its products find wide application in government, health care, utility, media/entertainment and other markets, and are sold through a direct sales force, by distributors and by value added resellers. A subsidiary, Old Dominion Systems, Inc. of Maryland, provides technical analysis and support services to the U.S. government and prime contractors.
