MICROCOM UPGRADES MACINTOSH UTILITIES TO SYSTEM 7 COMPATIBILITY; MICROCOM 911 UTILITIES AND COMPLETE UNDELETE INCORPORATE NEW FEATURES
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Microcom Inc. (NASDAQ: MNPI), developer of connectivity and utility products for the Mac and PC, today announced upgrades to two of its popular Macintosh utility products, Microcom 911 Utilities(tm) and Complete Undelete(tm). With these upgrades, 911 Utilities V.1.1, Microcom's collection of comprehensive Macintosh utilities, and Complete Undelete V.2.0., Microcom's powerful file recovery program, are now System 7 compatible.
Complete Undelete version 2.0 has also been enhanced with extended network features and new security features. 911 Utilities V.1.1 includes enhancements that optimize hard drive performance.
"By incorporating System 7 compatibility into these products, we are creating an across-the-board consistency and ease-of-use for our users," stated Robert Capon, vice president of Microcom's Utilities Product Group. "With these upgrades, Microcom's entire family of Macintosh utilities now supports System 7."
911 Utilities V.1.1 has also been updated to include FileKnit(tm), a utility that optimizes hard drive performance by reconstructing broken files stored in different locations on the drive. FileKnit improves the user's computer performance by combining the data into contiguous files that can be easily accessed and quickly read.
Complete Undelete 2.0 also contains powerful new networking and security features. Using Complete Undelete, system administrators can recover server-based files over a network while still retaining the original file security. Because some files may be confidential and should not be recovered, Complete Undelete has been enhanced with an "erase file" feature which makes deleted files unrecoverable.
Version 2.0 displays the original folders of deleted files, thus simplifying the recovery process. Once users determine the file to be undeleted, they may either restore the file to its original folder location or to the Macintosh desktop.
Current registered users of Complete Undelete may upgrade to version 2.0 for only $15. Current 911 Utilities users will receive free upgrades to version 1.1.
Microcom offers a Help Hotline(tm) for technical support. Additional support and information is available to online users from UPGate(tm), Microcom's convenient new bulletin board service.
Both 911 Utilities and Complete Undelete are available now through Microcom dealers and distributors. Microcom 911 Utilities remains priced at $149.95 and Complete Undelete is priced at $79.95 for a single version and $119.95 for a 2-Pak.
Microcom is a PC and Macintosh connectivity company headquartered in Norwood, Mass., with offices in Danbury, Conn.; Wilmington, Del.; Durham, N.C.; Caguas, Puerto Rico; and international offices in France, Hong Kong, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
