 MICROCOM OFFERS FREEWARE DISINFECTOR FOR THE MICHELANGELO VIRUS;
 DISINFECTOR AVAILABLE ON MANY BULLETIN BOARDS
 NORWOOD, Mass., Feb. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Microcom(R) Inc., (NASDAQ: MNPI) developer of PC and Macintosh connectivity and utility products, today announced version 2.0 of VIRx, its freeware scanner version of Virex(R) for the PC. VIRx version 2.0 scans for the presence of over 650 viruses and includes a disinfector for the widely spread Michelangelo virus.
 "In the past, the VIRx scanner has only included virus detectors. Virus disinfectors were only available through the commercial Virex for the PC product," said Robert Capon, general manager of Microcom's Utilities Product Group. "However, due to the detrimental nature of the virus, we are making the Michelangelo disinfector available as a public service to all users who are concerned about the virus."
 The Michelangelo virus has a trigger date of March 6. If the virus is not removed by that date, it will format the computer's hard drive by overwriting it with random characters from system memory, thus erasing all files on the hard drive. Microcom's Michelangelo disinfector will be active in the VIRx scanner until March 10, 1992, so users can protect themselves against potential damage.
 Users can download VIRx 2.0 for free from Microcom's BBS UPGate(TM) at 919-419-1602 (8 databits, 1 stopbit, no parity) and the NCSA (National Computer Security Association) BBS at 202-364-1304. VIRx 2.0 is also available through the Internet, CompuServe, FidoNet and GEnie systems.
 The Michelangelo disinfector is also available as part of the VPCScan scanner program in the commercial Virex for the PC package. Virex for the PC, version 2.1 is currently shipping and is available for $99.95. For more product information please contact 919-490-1277.
 Technical support is available through the Utilities Help Hotline. Additional support and information is also available from Microcom's UPGate(tm) BBS.
 Microcom is a PC connectivity company headquartered in Norwood, Mass., with offices in Danbury, Conn.; Wilmington, Del; Durham, N.C; Caguas, Puerto Rico; and international offices in France, Hong Kong, Singapore and the U.K.
