MICROCOM ANNOUNCES RELAY GOLD LAN 5.0
MICROCOM ANNOUNCES RELAY GOLD LAN 5.0 NORWOOD, Mass., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Microcom, Inc.
(NASDAQ-NMS: MNPI), a leading developer of PC connectivity solutions, today announced the availability of Relay(R) Gold LAN 5.0, the latest version of its well-known Relay PC-to-mainframe communication software. Relay Gold LAN 5.0 is particularly suited to corporate computing environments, which typically use several methods to connect PCs to 3270 systems. By supporting a broad selection of terminal emulations and file transfer protocols, Relay Gold LAN 5.0 saves the time and expense of buying, installing and managing different software products needed to support multiple access methods.
When installed on a network file server on any NetBIOS-compatible LAN, Relay Gold LAN 5.0 allows up to 250 PC network users to simultaneously link to a mainframe or minicomputer, bulletin board or information service, or to other PCs connected to the LAN. "Server-based LAN software offers clear management and maintenance advantages," said David Wilson, Microcom director of operations for the Relay Product Group. "Relay Gold LAN 5.0 is a powerful communication tool that provides corporations with a standardized and cost-effective method of fulfilling a wide variety of communications needs." In addition to asynchronous and synchronous modems, Relay Gold LAN 5.0 supports most protocol converters, 3270 emulation coaxial boards (CUT and DFT mode), direct Token Ring 802.2 TIC connections and a range of gateways. Relay Gold 5.0, in both the LAN and standalone versions, is the only communications package that provides true 3270 DFT terminal emulation through any connection. Whether they are local or remote, using synchronous or asynchronous connection methods, all users get full- screen 3270 emulation, multiple sessions, error-free file transfer, 3279 graphics and 3287 printer support. Relay Gold LAN 5.0 has a list price of $825 and is available now by calling the Relay Product Group at 800-967-3529. The package includes software and documentation for the file server and five nodes. Nodes can be added for $125 per copy. ---- NOTE: Microcom is a leading vendor of PC connectivity solutions.
