MICROCOM AND IBM TO DEMONSTRATE LANLORD FOR LAN NETVIEW AT NETWORLD DALLAS

NORWOOD, Mass., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Microcom(R), Inc. (NASDAQ: MNPI), a remote PC connectivity company with headquarters in Norwood, Mass, announced today that it will demonstrate LANlord for LAN NetView, a new version of its LANlord(R) integrated desktop management software at IBM(R) Booth 1602 at the upcoming Networld Dallas trade show Oct. 5-7, 1993.
Developed by Microcom under an agreement signed with IBM in June 1993, LANlord for LAN NetView extends LANlord's desktop systems management capabilities for enterprise PC-based local area networks to include OS/2(R) client workstations, and to support management of LANServer(R) and NetWare(R) LANs, through integration with IBM's LAN NetView(R) Manage platform and IBM's DOS, Windows and OS/2 agents.
LANlord for LAN NetView uses the same basic architecture as LANlord (server/manager/agent), but utilizes LAN NetView support services to provide integration with other LAN NetView facilities. The LANlord for LAN NetView server, management workstation, and workstation agent use IBM Manage, View, and Agents, respectively. In addition to multiple management workstations, LANlord for LAN NetView supports use of multiple Manage servers.
All LANlord applications can be accessed from a management workstation running under the OS/2 Presentation Manager-based View environment. This provides an intuitive, consistent easy-to-use centralized control facility from which an entire network and its resources can be managed.
By choosing LANlord for LAN NetView, users will be able to add the following multiple, integrated desktop management applications to their existing network management capabilities:
 -- Automatic Inventory
 -- Remote Management and Control
 -- Network and PC Monitoring
 -- Software Metering
 -- Reporting and Data Export
IBM LAN NetView provides a single, integrated view of LAN systems. It supports centralized and/or distributed management, viewing of all resources (clients, servers, network devices) at one display, local and/or remote administration, and integration of IBM and vendor applications under a single user interface. It utilizes industry- standard management protocols (CMIP, SNMP) and APIs (XMP, SOM), and provides support for implementation of OSF DME technologies and third- party applications.
"IBM LAN NetView and Microcom's LANlord for LAN NetView provide users with true distributed systems management for LAN system resources," said Art Olbert, director of LAN systems in IBM's Personal Software Products Division. "With these products, users can manage a LAN system containing IBM LAN Server, Novell NetWare and workstations, from the same console."
LANlord for LAN NetView will be marketed jointly by IBM and Microcom. Details on pricing and availability were not released.
