MICRO DECISIONWARE DATABASE GATEWAY(TM), WINDOWS NT VERSION NOW AVAILABLE

 Baxter Healthcare, Nordstrom, Pennzoil
Among First to Deploy Industry's First NT Gateway
REDMOND, Wash., Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Micro Decisionware, Inc. (MDI) today announced the release of its Database Gateway for the Windows NT operating system.
This follows an extremely successful beta test program at a number of sites including Baxter Healthcare, Pennzoil, Nordstrom and Sony.
This latest addition to MDI's Enterprise Information Framework is the industry's first Database Gateway for Windows NT, and provides access to relational and non-relational enterprise data from more than 150 front-end applications written to the industry standard DB-Library and ODBC APIs. The Gateway for Windows NT, like other MDI Database Gateways enables the bi-directional transfer of data between mainframe and LAN DBMSs, industrial strength transaction processing and mainframe- standard security.
Pricing starts at $2,000 and is based on the number of user connections.
MDI Stability and NT Portability Equals Powerful Solution for SAIF Corporation
"What makes this solution so viable is NT's portability to larger processors and MDI's stability in running on this platform," said Garry Robinson who managed the beta test of the Gateway for Windows NT at SAIF Corporation. SAIF is an insurance company that is the largest provider of workers compensation insurance in the state of Oregon.
"With the increasing volume of DB2 activity taking place from the PC environment, the partnership between SAIF and MDI has become increasingly important. We participated in beta testing the MDI Gateway for Windows NT, running on a multi-processor Sequent machine. With 1,200 employees ultimately requiring access to DB2 data from PC applications, this will provide us with some relief."
MDI's Vendor-Neutral Architecture Protects Existing Technology Investments
"Clearly, there is a lot of excitement in the industry about Microsoft's Windows NT, and the benefits its 32 bit, scalable system offers large IS organizations," said MDI President and Chief Executive Officer Michael H. Forster. "As enterprise information systems continue to evolve, architectural flexibility is the key to producing positive results and protecting existing technology investments. With the addition of the Gateway for Windows NT to our Enterprise Information Framework, MDI is cler?ly providing the most vendor-neutral, high- performing and feature-rich connectivity solution in e? industry."
MDI: Microsoft's Choice for Enterprise Database Connectivity
"MDI is the industry leader in providing enterprise database connectivity solutions in the Microsoft Windows and Windows NT environments," said Microsoft Executive Vice President Steven Ballmer. "Their demonstrated dedication to open architecture, and their unique blend of desktop and mainframe expertise are what make them the obvious choice to be our partner in this increasingly critical area of multi- platform computing."
MDI's Database Gateway for Microsoft Windows NT, along with Microsoft SQL Server for Windows NT and Microsoft SNA Server, raise the bar for enterprise client-server solutions. They deliver performance, functionality and a level of manageability unavailable from competing products.
MDI's Enterprise Information Framework: Access is Just the Beginning
Enabling organizations to access enterprise data -- both relational and non-relational -- wherever it may be stored, is a key first step in implementing real-world client/server systems. Using MDI's Database Gateways, organizations can access mainframe data stored in DB2, SQL/DS, IMS, IDMS and VSAM as well as LAN-based data in SQL Server and Oracle. Using the Database Gateway in combination with Trinzic's InfoHub(TM), users can gain direct SQL access to non-relational data sources, and can transparently join non-relational and DB2 data. But Access Management, while a core technology, is just the first step.
End users must be able to move data bi-directionally from server to server, all the while keeping it synchronized and secure. MDI calls this Copy Management and introduced this capability with the Transfer facility of its Database Gateway. Its recent incorporation of Trinzic's InfoPump(TM) now enables users to schedule and synchronize the movement of data between LAN RDBMSs and mainframe databases. Dissimilar data can also be combined to enable companies to maximize the power of the information stored throughout their enterprises.
