MICHIGAN BELL OFFERS VOICE MAIL TO DETROIT-AREA BUSINESSES

DETROIT, March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Once the domain of only the largest corporations, voice mail has emerged as one of the hottest tools for small to mid-sized businesses.
To respond to this burgeoning need, Michigan Bell this week introduces a voice mail service that integrates with Ameritech Centrex Service for customers in parts of the metropolitan Detroit area. The new offering provides a cost-effective solution to businesses that want to ensure calls are never missed, so their customers receive prompt, reliable service.
Centrex is the telecommunications service that uses state-of-the art equipment housed in Michigan Bell switching centers. There are more than 1,200 Centrex customers in the Detroit area alone.
With the new network-based voice mail service, customers benefit from the latest technology without the need for costly on-site equipment.
"Ameritech Centrex Voice Mail eliminates the burden of housing and maintaining bulky, expensive systems -- or purchasing separate answering machines for each employee's line, as some businesses have done," said Judd Wellard, Michigan Bell vice president of large business markets.
"Integrating voice mail with Centrex also gives customers the 'stutter' dial tone that indicates messages are waiting," Wellard said.
Ameritech Centrex Voice Mail gives customers the flexibility to add or delete voice "mailboxes" whenever the need arises; they don't have to purchase additional pieces of equipment or software. Because the service is software-based, there are no tapes to break and no worries about garbled messages. And unlike phone answering machines, voice mail service won't be disrupted during a power outage.
To order Centrex voice mail, customers can call their Ameritech authorized distributor, their Michigan Bell Communications account representative, or 1-800-CENTREX.
