MICHIGAN BELL MAKES IT EASIER TO WORK AT HOME
 DETROIT, Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Telecommuting is a burgeoning

trend, and Michigan Bell is making it easier to work at home by phone.
The company is offering free guidebooks on how to work productively at home, how to solve computer modem problems and how to buy and use fax machines. Michigan Bell also is publishing a free bimonthly newsletter for homeworkers.
All the publications are available by calling the company's automated Work-At-Home Information Line at 1-800-447-3021, Ext. 723.
Michigan Bell's colorful 18-page Work-At-Home Guide contains information on products that can boost efficiency --including fax machines, modems and answering machines -- plus answers to some typical work-at-home problems.
The Home Office Modem Reference Manual is an easy-to-use 25-page guide that provides tips for buying a modem, troubleshooting modem problems and using videotex services.
"A Matter of Fax" is a brochure designed to answer common questions about facsimile machines and their use.
The current edition of Michigan Bell's Work-At-Home Newsletter carries a variety of articles for professionals who work at home, including how to deal with the isolation that homeworkers sometimes encounter, how to promote a home-based business and how to resolve child-care issues.
More than 5.5 million workers in the United States now work from home on at least a part-time basis, according to Tom Miller of Link Resources, a New York-based market research firm. Since 1990, the total number of homeworkers has increased 38 percent.
