MICHIGAN BELL INTRODUCES VOICE MAIL

 MICHIGAN BELL INTRODUCES VOICE MAIL
DETROIT, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Beginning today telephone customers

in the metropolitan Detroit area will be able to obtain voice mail service directly from Michigan Bell.
Voice Mail from Michigan Bell is a service that answers calls when customers can't. One advantage unique to voice mail is that callers can leave messages even when the person they're calling is on another call.
That way, callers don't receive a busy signal and people can retrieve messages and return calls when it's most convenient for them.
"Voice mail is much more than just an improvement over answering machines -- it's really an information service that gives people added control over their lifestyles and businesses," said Laird Spencer, Michigan Bell's director of marketing and business development.
"With Voice Mail from Michigan Bell, there's no special equipment to buy, no tapes to break, no remembering to turn a machine off and on, and no need for repairs," Spencer said. "Even if there's a power outage, customers can still retrieve their messages."
"And because it uses the latest in digital technology, Voice Mail from Michigan Bell provides excellent sound quality and reliability so customers won't have to worry about garbled or missed messages," Spencer added.
The service provides many of the same features voice mail users are already accustomed to seeing in the workplace. For example, subscribers to the basic service will be able to place a one-minute greeting message, and callers will have three minutes to leave incoming messages.
The system will store up to 30 messages for 16 days, indicating the date and time of each call. Cost for this package will be $7.50 per month, plus usage charges.
An expanded version of the service offers a longer greeting, storage capacity of 60 messages, and two-way message capability. The expanded package is especially useful for small businesses and customers who work at home. The monthly price for this service is $15.20, plus usage charges.
Voice Mail from Michigan Bell enhances the value of other Custom Calling Services. For example, customers with Distinctive Ringing (or Caller ID, where available) can decide whether to answer an incoming call personally or have it answered by voice mail. Voice mail service also comes with around-the-clock assistance through a toll-free voice mail help line.
The service initially will be offered to about 800,000 customers in metropolitan Detroit. Many more customers will gain access to the service next year.
To obtain Voice Mail from Michigan Bell, residence customers can call 1-800-825-8336, Ext. 232; business customers can call 1-800-445-5628, Ext. 960.
