MICHELLE ENGLER JOINS VARNUM, RIDDERING, SCHMIDT & HOWLETT

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Michelle Engler, a commercial lawyer and wife of Michigan Gov. John Engler, has joined the law firm of Varnum, Riddering, Schmidt & Howlett. She will begin practicing on a part-time basis with the firm on April 1.
Engler will practice with Varnum, Riddering's Commercial and Financial Services Practice Group from the firm's Lansing and Grand Rapids offices. She will practice in the areas of bankruptcy law and commercial litigation.
In making the announcement, Hilary F. Snell, Managing Partner of the firm, said, "We are delighted to welcome Michelle Engler to Varnum, Riddering. She is an excellent lawyer and did superb legal work for her former firm in Texas."
Engler stated, "I am excited about the opportunity to resume my career. I have always found the legal profession to be very rewarding, and I look forward to continuing the practice of law in Michigan."
Engler began her law career in Texas in 1983. Prior to her marriage to then Governor-elect John Engler, she was a partner in the distinguished Texas law firm of Nathan, Wood and Sommers where she specialized in bankruptcy law and commercial litigation.
Engler received her juris doctor degree from the University of Texas Law School and her bachelor of arts degree in political science from the University of Texas.
Engler is the second prominent Michigan attorney to join Varnum, Riddering, Schmidt & Howlett in as many months. In February, Karen Smith Kienbaum, president of the Detroit Bar Association, joined the firm and established an office in Detroit.
Varnum, Riddering, Schmidt & Howlett is one of Michigan's largest full-service law firms. With over 125 lawyers and offices throughout Michigan, the firm represents a diversified client base.
