MICHELE GILLEN JOINS WTVJ CHANNEL 4 NEWS TEAM

MIAMI, March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Michele Gillen will join WTVJ Channel 4 as news anchor. Gillen will co-anchor the Channel 4 News at 6 and 11 p.m. with broadcast veterans Tony Segreto and Bryan Norcross announced WTVJ President and General Manager Dick Lobo.
Gillen has been a correspondent with NBC News for the past five years. During that time, Gillen was recognized for her investigative reporting, which included a special report on the famine in Ethiopia and the HIV crisis in Uganda.
Most recently, as a correspondent on the NBC newsmagazine "Dateline NBC," Gillen gained recognition for her one-on-one exclusive interview with Florida female serial killer Aileen Wuornos.
"Gillen's move to WTVJ Channel 4 will be a homecoming of sorts. She was a colleague of mine at WPLG for eight years," said Channel 4 News Director Sharon Scott. Gillen was an anchor/reporter at WPLG from 1980 until 1988, where she was a driving force behind the station's ratings climb in local news.
While reporting and anchoring in South Florida, Gillen was awarded nine local Emmies and the prestigious Columbia-Dupont Award for a series on elderly, disabled and child abuse in South Florida.
"We are delighted to have someone of Michele's vast experience and knowledge of the South Florida community on our team," said Lobo.
Gillen was born and raised in New York City and has held anchor positions in Portland and Bangor, Maine. She is a graduate of Emerson College in Boston.
WTVJ Channel 4 is an NBC owned and operated station.
