MICHEL NAMED CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER FOR MAC NETWORK

WILMINGTON, Del., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Money Access Service Inc. (MAC) has named Jeff Michel chief technology officer, effective immediately.
Michel joins the MAC network from Sears, Roebuck & Company, where he was national manager of Catalog Systems, with responsibility for all information technology activities covering catalog, direct response, outlet stores and a 2,200 store dealer network.
Prior to joining Sears, Michel was manager of Retail Systems and Programming for J.C. Penney Company. A 23-year veteran of the Dallas- based retailer, Michel oversaw the POS system for J.C. Penney stores, and related merchandising, distribution, customer service, specialty retailing and EDI. In this position, Michel rolled out new POS hardware and software; drove the development of a decision-support environment based on a relational data base of POS information; and implemented a new inventory management system.
Michel's experience with J.C. Penney also included directing programming efforts to develop applications supporting high-transaction volume processing. At Penney's, he was a pioneer in advocating technology utilizing mainframe, massive parallel processing and client server networks.
"Jeff's history as an innovator in retail technology will prove invaluable to the MAC network as we continue to enhance our ATM capabilities and expand our POS customer base," said Michael L. Douglas, president of the MAC network. "His expertise will also have a positive impact on the development of our smart card product, which we anticipate will be one of the industry's most significant innovations."
The MAC system currently has 1,450 participating financial institutions and 28 million cardholders in 16 states, primarily in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions. It is the top electronic funds transfer network in total switch transactions and a leading provider of point-of-sale services.
