MICHCON OFFERS FREE HELP WITH HOME HEATING CREDIT FORMS

MICHCON OFFERS FREE HELP WITH HOME HEATING CREDIT FORMS
DETROIT, Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Michigan Consolidated Gas Company

(MichCon) is offering its low-income customers free assistance in preparing the Michigan Home Heating Credit forms. Customers eligible for this credit from the Michigan Department of Treasury could receive energy drafts of $200 to $500, depending on income and individual heating costs.
For free information on the credit and help filling out the forms, customers should call MichCon at 313-965-8000 during regular business hours, or stop by any MichCon customer business office.
"Many customers, including Department of Social Service clients who previously were not eligible for the credit, may not realize they are eligible for this special energy assistance," said Richard Zemmin, MichCon's vice president of Public Affairs. "This credit can be a great help paying for winter heating bills. MichCon is pleased to offer free assistance to see that customers receive the full refunds they are entitled to."
This year for the first time, DSS clients were made eligible for the Home Heating Credit to help offset cuts in the winter heating supplement of their monthly grants. As in past years, low-income customers and renters are also eligible.
To obtain the credit, a Michigan resident head of household must file a claim with the Treasury Department. For most residents this is done with their state income tax filing; those not required to file a state tax return should file the credit form alone. The Accounting Aid Society of Detroit is working with MichCon to provide assistance in filling out the forms.
MichCon, a wholly owned subsidiary of MCN Corporation (NYSE: MCN), is a natural gas distribution, transmission and storage company serving 1.1 million customers in 465 communities throughout Michigan.
