MICHAEL THOMPSON NAMED CHIEF LEGAL OFFICER OF ENTERGY NEW ORLEANS, Nov. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael G. Thompson has been
named senior vice president and chief legal officer of Entergy Corporation (NYSE: ETR) effective Jan. 1, 1992, announced Jerry D. Jackson, executive vice president, finance and external affairs.
Thompson is currently a senior partner and head of the commercial and commercial litigation department of the law firm of Friday, Eldredge and Clark, of Little Rock, Ark. He will assume overall responsibility for managing the legal activities of Entergy and its subsidiary companies, and will report to Jackson. A member of the bar since 1964, Thompson has represented Entergy subsidiary AP&L as outside counsel in all manner of legal matters since 1984. His experience also includes business-related legal practice involving real estate, the oil and gas industry, and regulatory activities in the transportation industry, with an emphasis on litigation. He holds positions on the management and compensation committees of his current firm. Thompson's extensive experience in trial work has merited membership in two prestigious national legal organizations, the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Board of Trial Advocates, the latter of which he served as president of the Arkansas chapter in 1987 and which he currently serves as a member of the national board of directors. He is licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Arkansas Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit in St. Louis, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas. Thompson, 51, earned an LL.B. from the University of Arkansas in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and held the rank of First Lieutenant upon discharge. He was a law clerk to Associate Justice George Rose Smith of the Arkansas Supreme Court for one year prior to entering private practice with the firm of Smith, Williams, Friday and Bowen, a predecessor to his present firm. Married to the former Suzanne Landthrip of Little Rock, Thompson has two children, Greg, 26, and Ashley, 22. His father, the late W.H. "Bill" Thompson, represented the area of Marked Tree and Poinsett County in the Arkansas House of Representatives for more than three decades. His mother is the former Norma Cornealison, currently a resident of Marked Tree, Ark., and formerly of Lepanto, Ark.
