MICHAEL M. BAYLSON APPOINTED TO ATTORNEY GENERAL'S ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF U.S. ATTORNEYS

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Attorney General William P. Barr announced today that Michael M. Baylson, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, will serve on the Attorney General's Advisory Committee of the U.S. Attorneys.
The committee, which plays a significant role in determining policies and programs of the Department of Justice, consists of 15 U.S. attorneys personally selected by the attorney general.
Also named today as chairman of the committee was Thomas W. Corbett Jr., U.S. attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh). Serving as vice chairmen will be Michael W. Carey, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia (Charleston) and David Jordan, U.S. attorney for the District of Utah (Salt Lake City).
The Attorney General's Advisory Committee was created in 1973; it was the first time in the history of the Department of Justice that U.S. attorneys assumed a policy-advising role.
Today, the committee plays a vital role in furthering national goals as set by the president of the United States and the attorney general, goals such as: the pursuit and prosecution of organized crime figures, the apprehension of violent gangs and drug dealers, and the prosecution of white collar crime.
Each of these areas has been a focus of the U.S. Attorney's office under Baylson. For example, the nationwide Weed and Seed program, aimed at weeding out drug dealers and seeding with neighborhood revitalization, grew out of initiatives started in his office. In addition, concentrated strategies against financial institution fraud, insurance fraud, environmental violations, and health care fraud resulted in significant convictions and increased momentum of broad federal efforts against fraud.
