MICHAEL JACKSON COMPANY CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER STEPHEN CHABRE RESPONDS TO 'DANGEROUS' TOUR LAWSUIT

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The $20 million lawsuit filed by a promoter of Michael Jackson's canceled "Dangerous World Tour" has brought a response on Jackson's behalf from Stephen Chabre, president and chief executive officer of Jackson's MJJ Enterprises. Marcel Avram, owner of Mama Concerts, based in Munich, filed a fraud and breach of contract suit last week.
Chabre noted that MJJ Enterprises and tour promoter Avram have been in "serious settlement negotiations since the cancellation of the tour to resolve this amicably. It is our continued desire to resolve the matter in a fair and equitable manner. We were disappointed that Mr. Avram and his attorneys resorted to high-profile actions in an attempt to take advantage of the current media frenzy surrounding Michael Jackson."
Chabre noted: "I like Mr. Avram personally and respect him as a promoter. However, it is necessary to present a few facts in response to the statements made to the media last week regarding the lawsuit. Statements made on Mr. Avram's behalf that Michael Jackson went on tour to escape controversy are preposterous. Putting together the `Dangerous World Tour' required months of painstaking planning and organization. If Michael Jackson wanted to leave the country, he could simply have purchased an airline ticket!"
Chabre reasserted earlier statements made regarding the cancellation of Jackson's world tour. "The tour was not canceled arbitrarily but for very serious health reasons," he said. "Michael Jackson was very distraught over having to cancel the tour, especially because he did not want to let his fans down. Also, to say we have turned our back on Mr. Avram, as he alleges, is completely untrue."
Chabre noted that he has been forced to go public on this matter because of the statements made by Avram's attorneys concerning Jackson and the canceled tour.
