 MICHAEL J. SEBASTIAN ELECTED TO QUANEX BOARD OF DIRECTORS
 HOUSTON, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Quanex Corporation (NYSE: NX), a "Fortune 500" company and leading manufacturer of specialty metal products, today announced that Michael J. Sebastian, executive vice president of Cooper Industries, Inc. (Cooper) has been elected to its board of directors. Since 1984 Sebastian has been responsible for the petroleum & industrial equipment segment of Cooper Industries, a $6 billion diversified manufacturing company. Sebastian has been with Cooper since 1979 serving in executive positions of increasing responsibility.
 Before joining Cooper Industries, he was with FMC Corporation for 24 years in various manufacturing and general management positions. After leaving FMC he held executive positions with the Gardner-Denver Company which was acquired by Cooper in 1979. Sebastian earned a B.S.M.E. from Santa Clara University and is a graduate of the Harvard Advanced Management Program.
 Carl E. Pfeiffer, chairman and chief executive officer said, "We increased the board of directors from seven to eight members because of the opportunity to elect Sebastian to the board, he joins a group of directors standing for election in 1993. His years of manufacturing and general management experience in heavy industry will be an important contribution to the board.
