MICHAEL I. SOVERN ELECTED TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF WARNER-LAMBERT COMPANY

 MORRIS PLAINS, N.J., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Warner-Lambert Company (NYSE: WLA) said today it has elected Michael I. Sovern, president emeritus and Chancellor Kent Professor of Law of Columbia University, to its board of directors.
 Sovern, a graduate of Columbia College and Columbia Law School, at age 28 became the youngest full professor in Columbia's modern history before serving as dean of the law school and provost of the university. He served as president from 1980 to 1993.
 In those 13 years, Columbia's endowment grew by more than $1 billion, supporting 119 new professorships and millions of dollars in scholarships and fellowships. A score of new academic centers including the renowned Harriman Institute, the National Center for Telecommunications Research, the National Center for Children in Poverty and the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in America, were also established.
 Sovern's board memberships include the American Academy in Rome, the Asian Cultural Council, AT&T, Chemical Bank and the Shubert Foundation. He is chairman of the Japan Society.
 Warner-Lambert is a worldwide company devoted to discovering, developing, manufacturing and marketing quality health care and consumer products. It employs approximately 35,000 people.
