MICHAEL BROWN NAMED PRESIDENT OF UNION CITY QUALITY DODGE

HIGHLAND PARK, Mich., May 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael L. Brown has been named president of Quality Dodge in Union City, Ga. His appointment is effective June 1.
Brown is a graduate of Chrysler Corporation's Dealer Development Program and gained experience at several dealerships in his native California.
The two-year Dealer Development Program, which was established 10 years ago, encourages and trains minorities and women to become auto dealers. The program offers on-site and classroom training in managing an automotive dealership's many facets, as well as financial assistance to get started.
Fifty-nine minorities and three women have graduated from Chrysler's Dealer Development Program since it started in 1983. Seven minorities are currently in training and will add to Chrysler's 135 minority dealers around the country.
"Mike was a natural for the ever-evolving Chrysler program," according to Cecil Ward, manager of Chrysler's Dealer Development Program. "He has grown up in the auto business working in just about every area of a dealership. Our program allowed him to look at how each area, such as sales, finance and service, fit together to make the whole dealership work."
To become a Chrysler dealer, Brown has undergone training in sales, service and parts, accounting, advertising, and personnel. Most recently he trained at McPeek Chrysler-Plymouth in Anaheim, Calif. He has also worked at Don-A-Vee Jeep(R)/Eagle in Bellflower, Calif., the largest Jeep/Eagle dealership in the country.
Although Brown's Chrysler career began in 1982 as a salesman with Pete Ellis Dodge in South Gate, Calif., according to Brown, his automotive experience began as a very young man in a much less exciting way. "I started out washing cars where my dad was a mechanic."
"Officially," Brown says his career in auto sales started with a suggestion from his wife Rosetta, who then worked with General Motors' Chevrolet Division in sales relations and product exposure. And, aside from his college studies at Whittier College, Brown, 35, has been working in the field for most of his life.
Brown was careful to choose the right training program. "I researched each of the Big Three's programs and found Chrysler's to be focused more on quality rather than just the quality of candidates. With the Chrysler program, I was one of only nine people in my class," said Brown. "In such a small class, Chrysler is able to train us individually and place us much more quickly."
Brown is looking forward to working in Atlanta. "The economic indicators all point to a boom in business for the Atlanta area."
Factors Brown considered are that Atlanta has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, is very affordable and has many positive economic elements like the 1994 Super Bowl and 1996 Olympics, which should bring lots of business to the area and "lots of customers into the dealership."
