MICEK ELECTED TO CARGILL BOARD OF DIRECTORS, SUCCEEDING PEARCE

 MINNEAPOLIS, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Ernest S. Micek, president of Cargill's Food Sector, has been elected to the company's board of directors, effective June 10, 1993.
 Micek will succeed William R. Pearce, who retires from the company on that date.
 Micek, 57, has responsibility for Cargill's Corn Milling, Flour Milling, Worldwide Oilseed Processing and Malt operations. He is one of 15 members of Cargill's Corporate Center management team and serves on a variety of management committees.

"Ernie brings a thorough understanding of our processing businesses and demonstrated management skills that should help us maintain our efforts to serve growing demand for all the products and services Cargill offers."
 Micek, a native of Arcadia, Wis., joined Cargill in 1959 following his graduation from the University of Wisconsin. He was named an assistant vice president and general manager of Cargill's Corn Milling Department in 1973, vice president of the Milling Division in 1978 and president of the Corn Milling Division in 1981. He has held his current post since April 1992.
 Micek also is a member of the U.S./Canada Chamber of Commerce Committee on Trade Relations and is a director and past chairman of the Corn Refiners Association. He is a director of Schneider National of Green Bay, Wis.
 Following his retirement from Cargill, Pearce will continue to serve as president of the Cargill Foundation and will become president and chief executive officer of IDS Mutual Funds Group. Pearce has been vice chairman of Cargill.
 Micek will join four other Cargill officer as management directors on the 15-member board. Those officers are: Heinz F. Hutter, president and chief operating officer of Cargill; Robert L. Lumpkins, vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer; Whitney MacMillan, chairman and chief executive officer; and Gerald M. Mitchell, executive vice president.
 Another five board members representing common shareholders are: James R. Cargill; Marianne C. Liebmann; Cargill MacMillan, Jr.; W. Duncan MacMillan; and Lucy M. Stitzer. The independent directors are: Michael R. Bonsignore, chairman and chief executive officer, Honeywell; Lloyd P. Johnson, chairman, Norwest Corporation; Walter F. Mondale, partner, Dorsey & Whitney; Winston R. Wallin, chairman, Medtronic; and Michael W. Wright, chairman, president and chief executive officer, SUPERVALU INC.
