A RESTAURANT had to close after mice took over a ball pit in their soft play area.

The rodents were first spotted by a group attending a children's party at Brewers Fayre at Edinburgh's Newhaven Quay.

Disgusted Nicola Dawson, whose nephew was celebrating his birthday, said they were "met with mice running around". She claimed the manager "wasn't fussed until two or three more customers spotted them".

Brewers Fayre said they adhere to rigorous hygiene and inspection standards. They insisted doors were closed as soon as the mice, which they believe may have come from a nearby construction site, were discovered on Sunday.

Pest controllers were called in and the restaurant will be shut for at least a week.

A Brewers Fayre spokesman apologised for the "inconvenience" and said affected guests have been offered complimentary meal vouchers.
