MHEFI presents Cahners, Lifetime Achievement awards.
J. Sherman McLaughlin, Esq. has received the Norman L. Cahners Award for recognition of distinguished activities in the material handling field and in support of the mission of the Education Foundation.
John Nofsinger, chief executive officer of the Material Handling Industry and member of the Education Foundation's board presented the award at the 2000 Materials Handling Education Foundation, Inc (MHEFI) gala, held during the recent 2000 MHIA annual meeting in Naples, FL.
McLaughlin is a senior partner of Reed Smith Shaw & McClay and general counsel of the Material Handling Industry. He has been affiliated with MHEFI since its inception. Acting as counsel, McLaughlin was responsible for the establishment of the bylaws and guidelines of the Foundation in 1975 and 1976.
During the 24 years since that time, McLaughlin has guided the leadership of MHEFI, has been an active member of the board of directors, and has been a continuous financial supporter during that time.
The Norman L. Cahners Award was established in 1990 and is named in honor of the founder of Modern Materials Handling magazine. Last year's recipient was Pinnacle Automation chairman William Michaels.
Also honored at the meeting was William Sbordon, retired publisher of MMH. Sbordon received the MHEFI Lifetime Achievement award after more than a decade of serving as president of MHEFI.
MHEFI raised its level of support of college and university scholarships 300% annually under Sbordon's guidance, while accumulating a trust fund sufficient to support the administrative activities associated with its programming.
