METROPOLITAN FINANCIAL NAMES JERRY RECORD BANK PRESIDENT

 MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Metropolitan Financial Corporation (NYSE: MFC) today announced that Jerry L. Record, 53, has been named president and chief operating officer of Metropolitan Federal Bank, fsb, its insured savings bank subsidiary, and executive vice president, banking services, for Metropolitan Financial Corporation.
 Norman M. Jones, chairman and chief executive officer of Metropolitan Financial Corporation, said, "Jerry's many years of experience as a senior executive in this and other industries will serve Metropolitan Federal Bank and Metropolitan Financial Corporation very well as we continue to grow our banking franchise and expand our markets."
 In addition to managing banking activities at Metropolitan Federal Bank, Record will join William P. Bartkowski, chief administrative officer, and Steven B. Dewald, chief financial officer, as Metropolitan Financial Corporation's executive management group, reporting to Jones.
 Record most recently served as the chairman, president and chief executive officer of American Charter Federal Savings & Loan Association, Lincoln, Neb., which was acquired by Metropolitan in 1992. Prior to that he was chairman and chief executive officer of Iliss-Thorn and Company, Phoenix; executive vice president and chief financial officer of Petro-Lewis Corporation, Denver; and executive vice president and chief operating officer, Columbia Savings, a federal savings and loan association in Denver.
 A graduate of the University of Wyoming at Laramie with an accounting degree, Record now resides in Minneapolis with his wife, Joan. A certified public accountant, Record has devoted many hours to his community and has served as director of both the Kansas/Nebraska League of Savings Institutions and the Savings & Community Bankers of America, formerly known as the U.S. League of Savings Institutions.
