METROCALL ANNOUNCES DISCUSSIONS WITH PRONET TO MERGE PRONET INTO METROCALL

 ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Metrocall, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCLL) and ProNet, Inc. (NASDAQ: PNET), announced today that they are engaged in discussions to merge ProNet into Metrocall in a transaction in which ProNet stockholders would receive Metrocall common stock. No definitive merger agreement has been reached nor can any assurances be given that the parties will enter into a definitive agreement or consummate such a merger.
 ProNet, Inc. provides wireless communication services through its paging and security systems operations. Its medical communications division is the leading supplier of integrated paging systems designed exclusively for medical institutions and health care professionals. Additionally, the company has entered into the broader commercial communications marketplace with the recent acquisition of Contact Communications, Inc., a major radio common carrier based in New York. The company also operates a state-of-the-art miniature radio transmitter and receiver system which is currently in use by 84 metropolitan police agencies.
 Metrocall, Inc. provides facilities-based local and regional coverage in the Mid-Atlantic region and in California and Nevada. In addition, Metrocall has recently activated its Nationwide Wireless Network which will enable the company to provide nationwide wireless communications to pagers, data terminals, personal computers and personal digital assistants throughout the top 100 U.S. markets.
