METRO CREATIVE GRAPHICS TO SUPPORT ALDUS FETCH

SEATTLE, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Aldus Corp. (NASDAQ: ALDC) today announced that Metro Creative Graphics, the leading supplier of advertising art to newspapers since 1910, has licensed the Browser version of Aldus Fetch to serve as a front-end to Metro's LaserArt CD-ROM. Fetch is a multiuser, mixed-media database program for cataloging, browsing through, and retrieving digitized media on the Apple Macintosh.
The LaserArt CD-ROM, an electronic version of Metro's core product, The Metro Newspaper Service, contains more than 500 new graphics each month that can be used in newspaper advertisements. Using the Fetch Browser, subscribers can view hundreds of images in a gallery of thumbnails, use keywords to access an original, and preview and copy originals for placement in ads and documents. The Boston Globe, Atlanta Journal and Constitution, Des Moines Register, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Edmonton Journal and St. Petersburg Times are among the hundreds of LaserArt CD-ROM users.
"By including Fetch with their image services, Metro Creative Graphics will measurably increase the value of their product to customers," said John Testement, business line manager for Fetch. "Fetch gives the user instant access to images, even if they are not quite sure what image they are looking for."
According to Andrew Shapiro, president of Metro Creative Graphics, the company reviewed a number of image database programs before deciding to license Aldus Fetch. "After evaluating all of the image management applications on the market, we chose Fetch to provide our customers with the easiest method available to access the graphics they need from our LaserArt CD-ROM," said Shapiro.
 Availability and Pricing
In addition to licensing the Fetch Browser as a front-end to their LaserArt CD-ROM, Metro Creative Graphics will extend a limited three- month offer to Multi-Ad Search 1.0 owners in their existing customer base, enabling them to trade up to the full-featured version of Aldus Fetch for $99 (U.S.). The company will also sell the full-featured version of Aldus Fetch directly to its subscriber base.
The full-featured, retail version of Aldus Fetch 1.0 is also available from Aldus dealers in the United States and Canada for a suggested retail price of $295 (U.S.). To purchase the retail version, or to obtain more information about licensing OEM versions of Fetch, customers in the United States and Canada can call Aldus Customer Services at 206-628-2320.
