Some councils in the UK are banning dogs from public parks to battle the problems of droppings being left to fester and people receiving unwanted attention from out-of-control dogs.

Most dog owners pick up after their pooches and have trained them not to pester people but the few that have not are causing local authorities to take drastic action.

Fines have been increased if an owner is found to have no poo bags and they must also keep their pet on a leash and stick to pathways.

These measures help resolve the problem but the majority of dog owners are being penalised for the actions of the irresponsible few.

I tie poo bags to trees in the hope the owner of the dog that regularly leaves a deposit on my lawn will use one someday.

I am on the side of councils - until all dog owners pick up poo, dispose of it in a bin, train dogs and don't allow untrained dogs off their lead in a public place, then they must take action. After all, public places belong to everyone.
