MESABA ANNOUNCES INTENTION TO SERVICE THUNDER BAY

 MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Mesaba Aviation, Inc., which operates as Northwest Airlink, said that it expects to receive final approval to serve Thunder Bay, Ontario, from the National Transportation Agency of Canada in the near future.
 In its license application, the regional carrier filed for approval to provide daily non-stop service between Minneapolis/St. Paul and Thunder Bay. It intends to begin service as early as March, 1993, and said it will make more detailed service information available in the next few weeks.
 Mesaba operates as Northwest Airlink under a marketing agreement with Northwest Airlines. Northwest Airlink flights are coordinated with Northwest flights at their Minneapolis/St. Paul and Detroit hubs so that convenient connections can be made nationwide and worldwide. Mesaba currently provides scheduled airline service to 43 cities in 15 states as well as two cities in Ontario -- London and Hamilton.
 The airline currently operates a fleet of nearly 50 aircraft including 19-seat Fairchild Metro IIIs, 37-seat de Havilland Dash 8- 100s and 48-seat Fokker F27s. Mesaba is one of the largest regional airlines in North America and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Minnesota-based AirTran Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: ATCC).
