MESA REPORTS THIRD QUARTER EARNINGS AND TRAFFIC

 FARMINGTON, N.M., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Mesa Airlines Inc. (NASDAQ: MESA) today reported earnings and traffic figures for the third quarter of its 1993 fiscal year ended June 30, 1993. The company had earnings of $0.25 per share, an increase of 6 cents per share, compared to the third quarter last year, on an average number of shares outstanding of 33.7 million. Operating revenues, operating income and net income each set records for the company. Operating income was $13.7 million vs. last year's $8.3 million. Operating revenues increased to $92.0 million, compared to $81.8 million in the prior year. Net income was $8.5 million, up from last year's $5.2 million.
 Operating cost per available seat mile dropped 1.3 cents to 16.5 cents while yield per revenue passenger mile was 37.2 cents, compared to 38.6 cents the previous year.
 For the April-June quarter, the airline carried 1,137,612 passengers with available seat miles of 475,840,000, and revenue passenger miles increased to 236,919,000. Load factor was 49.8 percent as compared to 49 percent.
 "All divisions and subsidiaries of the company have shown significant improvement in revenues and cost controls, reflecting a continuing dedication to enhancing shareholder value," stated Larry Risley, chief executive officer for the company.
 Mesa Airlines Inc. is the largest independently owned regional carrier in the country, operating seven different airline systems in 144 cities with a fleet of 138 aircraft.
